This edition focuses on Brand Technology Limited (Brandtech)- a technology solutions company headquartered in Lagos. The MD/CEO, Kunle Abiola-Ige, chats with us on the company’s operations and his expectations on Nigeria’s Identity space.

1. What led to the birth of Brandtech, and how has the journey been so far?

Brand Technology limited was established to fill the technology void in Nigeria.

We aim to fill the vacuum by providing designs and innovation, and also implementing applications that support ease of access to willing buyers and sellers. The journey has been encouraging, with more ups than downs.

2. Why did you chose VerifyMe as your identity verification partner?

We took our time to select our verification partner. We chose VerifyMe over others because it meets our needs. VerifyMe has the best and cleanest data, and it affords seamless integration. One of the other things that piqued our interest was the response time to issues we raised. Because, sometimes, service offerings may be good but customer service sorely lacking. VerifyMe is customer centric.

3. Which things have changed in your business because of our product/service?

Customer verification is an integral part of our business because we run a home service solution where you get services rendered in the comfort of your peculiar location. It requires that the partner coming to render the service is trusted. VerifyMe helps to ensure we have the right crop of people in our database. And this makes people trust us more.

4. What are the major challenges for Brandtech regarding identity in Nigeria and what role would you say digital identity plays in the innovation happening in your sector?

A challenge for us is the lack of a universal identity database in Nigeria. It makes adaptation problematic or slow because of a lack of trust. However, digital identity serves as a mitigant to this problem. However, it can only improve.

5. As we all know, COVID-19 disrupted 2020. What changes did Brandtech see and how was the business able to adapt to these changes?

The COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to go digital. We were able to introduce our solutions to a more tech-savvy pool of customers.

6. What would you like to see in the Nigerian identity space in 3 years?

We hope we can have a self-service system in the identity space. A solution that provides real-time verification unlike what we currently have that takes at least 24 hours and up to 72 hours for in-state verifications (depending on the state).
